A big Everton claim has been dropped about Tom Davies after a transfer update emerged on him.
The Lowdown: Southampton eye Davies
As per a report from Football Insider last month, Southampton have reignited their interest in signing Davies, after missing out on him last year.
A source from the Saints told the news outlet that they will make a move for the central midfield player if they are given any sort of encouragement by the Goodison Park faithful.
Davies is under contract at the Merseyside club until 2023, but no talks over a new deal have taken place as of yet.
The Latest: Kenny drops Davies claim
Speaking to Football Insider, Paddy Kenny, who is now a pundit after making a footballing career as a goalkeeper in the Premier League, has claimed that Toffees fans will not want Davies to be sold to the Saints:
“It could definitely upset the supporters.
“He’s an excellent player, he’s come through the academy and they count him as one of their own.
“We don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. Does he want to leave? Does he want to go somewhere where he can get more game time?
“There are so many factors to someone leaving a club and moving on. So I’m sure they’ll be gutted but there will be a reason behind if it does happen.”
The Verdict: Davies sale may split fanbase
Although there will certainly be some Blues supporters who will not want to see Davies being sold, especially to a rival in the top flight, others may feel as if they should let him go if the price is right.
Davies is homegrown, and Everton fans will obviously want him to succeed at Goodison, but he did not have the best of seasons and given that he is still only 22 years of age and English, they may be able to demand a sizeable fee for him.
The midfielder did not manage to score a single goal in 30 matches in total over all competitions in the 2020/21 term, and only made one assist (Transfermarkt), coming in for criticism from a number of Everton supporters at times.

Nonetheless, as Kenny says, his potential sale may well split the fanbase if a move to St. Mary’s does end up going through.
